Drum-Crushing 2019 Edition & FIRST Robotics Competition Fun

Our 6th graders had an exciting day learning about Weather & Climate, including making fire in a syringe, building sling psychrometers, making clouds, learning how to read Mesonet data, and… the crushing of a 55-Gal drum! Who knew learning about weather principles would be so much fun?

Back from mid-winter break, our 6th graders initiated a new module on Weather & Climate today! Students learned about the difference between these two, and were introduced to key concepts of pressure and temperature that they will build on throughout the module.

It’s Play Time! Also, How Do We Prefer To Power Up?

Our 7th graders exercised their creativity as they wrapped up their module on Game-making. We are very proud of their awesome ideas and designs. Meanwhile, our 6th graders learned about new types of power-generating turbines, and designed their own in preparation to powering up their own city.

Our friends RPI Engineering Ambassadors met our new group of 6th graders to initiate our exciting module on Energy. They had fun learning about energy and spending lab time building prototypes of steam turbines while learning about insulation.

This weekend marked the beginning of our second year learning and growing with Schenectady City kids! We loved welcoming our 7th graders back, as well as a whole new cohort of 6th graders. With the 6th graders joined a new group of mentors that add to our fantastic team of mentors and volunteers.
